This is a Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul Standard Electric Guitar in Candy Apple Red finish. Made in the USA in 2008, this guitar consists of a Mahogany body with a Maple top, a Mahogany neck, and a 22-fret Rosewood fingerboard. Other appointments include Gibson Deluxe tuners with Tulip buttons, a Tune-o-Matic bridge, and a ABR-1 bridge. The pickups installed in this guitar are a Gibson Custom Shop Jimmy Page Humbucker in the neck position, and a Gibson ‘Dirty Fingers’ Humbucker in the bridge position. These pickups are wired to standard Les Paul wiring.

This guitar is allegedly a part of the collection of 25 Custom Shop recreations of Jimmy Page’s “Number 3” Les Paul. This ‘mystery’ guitar has been speculated about since he first acquired it on tour in 1970. Jimmy’s original “No.3” was said to be a refinished Goldtop with a “pancake” body that had the original mini-humbuckers replaced with full-sized humbuckers. This guitar features the same early 50’s appointments such as the lower headstock decal placement, long-neck tenon joint and thinner binding.

The Mahogany body and Maple top matched with the Rosewood fingerboard and Mahogany neck provide this guitar with soaring responsive resonance that true Les Pauls are renowned for, giving the guitar warm, smooth and rich tones that are an unmatched iconic part of musical culture. The Mahogany neck sits comfortably in the hand, with the 50’s profile filling the hand without being overly thick, this offers a balanced and smooth playing experience. The Medium Jumbo frets and 12” radius provide a robust and smooth playing experience all across the Rosewood fingerboard, and enhance string bending and vibrato techniques. The ABR-1 bridge provides this guitar almost infinite sustain and gives a true vintage feel for the player to get the most out of this guitar effortlessly.

The Gibson Custom Shop Jimmy Page Humbucker in the neck position delivers impeccable lead tone for solos and melodic lines with a fantastically thick and full tone right out of the gate. The middle position sounds punchy, with driving mids along with crisp and clear highs making for a nice blend of the two pickups. The Gibson ‘Dirty Fingers’ Humbucker bridge position provides open sustain and broad harmonic clarity, making chords sound crystalline and clear. The Classic Les Paul wiring gives plenty of versatility without any complicated switching.

Aesthetic Condition:

Headstock: Overall very good condition. All aspects of the headstock demonstrate scratching visible only under direct lighting at certain angles. The top edges demonstrate light scuffing and indentation that does not pierce the finish. A small spot of finish has been removed near the D tuning peg.

Neck: Overall excellent condition. Non-structural light lacquer cracking is present in the upper register at either side of the fingerboard as is common with nitro finishes. Very light scratching can be seen under direct light.

Body: Overall very good condition. All aspects of the body demonstrate scratching. Checking of the nitro finish is apparent to the top in several places, particularly surrounding hardware. The bottom edge and rear displays a spot of light scuffing and very light indentation.

Condition of Frets:

The frets demonstrate very light signs of use, not affecting playability. There is considerable material remaining for any future fret work the new owner may wish to perform.

Current Set Up:

Truss Rod: Fully functional. Truss rod tool (5/16” socket) not included.

Hardware: Fully functional. The hardware demonstrates moderate signs of use, particularly oxidation to the bridge, input jack plate and saddle that does not affect functionality.

Structural: No concerns or issues to note.

Height of the string from the 12th Fret-1.5mm - Bass 2mm
